What Are Eye Floaters
Do you have a small moving spot in your field of vision? Or have you ever noticed it in someone’s field of vision/eye? A kind of red moving spot! Yes, it is called an eye floater. Eye Floaters are especially noticeable when you look at something bright for example, at white paper or up in the blue sky. Some people having floaters in eye find it annoying and some people simply adjust to live with them. Although, these floaters do not interfere with one’s sight, generally.
Let’s understand what causes of eye floaters. Major cause of floaters is small flecks of a protein. These flecks of protein are called collagen. What happens is, in back compartment of the eye a gel like substance is filled which is known as vitreous humor. Aging is responsible to shrink the vitreous and its millions of fine collagen fibers. And it becomes shred-like which can cause a change in the amount of light that hits the retina. Other reasons that may cause eye floaters (these reasons are infrequent to cause eye floaters) can be from eye surgeries. Also, any eye disease, eye injury and diabetic retinopathy etc. Very rarely, floaters in eye may be a result of crystal-like deposits that form in the vitreous and eye tumors such as lymphoma. Eye floaters can appear in one eye or both.
Eye Floater can be bothersome
As we have discussed above in blog, that most of the time people learn to live with eye floaters and they ignore them. But, for information, sometimes benign eye floaters become bothersome enough to consider treatment. One should not avoid even a tiny discomfort or irritation in eye he/she may be suffering. As sometimes eye floaters are a sign of a more serious condition, a person suffering from it must seek immediate medical attention. Eye floaters can appear in many different shapes, such as black or gray dots, squiggly lines, there can be threadlike strands which can be knobby and semi-transparent. Also, there can be cobwebs and it can be in ring shape. There are expert eye-surgeons offering laser based treatments to correct different types of vision problems and vision-errors. These laser based treatment procedures are non-invasive and do not require any surgical0equipments. These procedures do not take longer time. It is just matter of minutes. This type of laser technique is a pain free procedure that can eliminate the visual disturbance you may be facing caused by floaters.
